The August 10, 2014 super moon captured in the Provincetown Dunes. Tried two other locations before settling on this one. I have moved the moon a bit lower in the frame. The Light of Cape Cod - Fall Workshop
October 19 to October 22 (three or four days, your choice)Mid Fall in Cape Cod is a multi faceted photo opportunity with truly spectacular scenics and some wildlife. The tourists have all gone, the Oyster festival is over and traffic is not a nightmare. This very special workshop is for all levels of photographers from beginner to advanced. The Cape provides some of the most incredible landscapes and seascapes and the light during fall is exceptional. I was so very pleased to see the progression with the way the participants were making images. The cycle of conceptualization, visualization and capture all coming together was so clear by the time we were closing out the workshop.This can all be summed up with a statement Carole made on facebook:I had the most amazing weekend. I did the Shiv Verma's workshop "Light of Cape Cod". Going in as a total beginner....I walked away with a wealth of knowledge. I now shoot in manual and learned to be so comfortable with my camera. Shiv was there to teach and guide...and then encouraged us to do it on our own. And that is a true teacher. It was like a lightbulb going off in my head....I got it, I understood it, I felt it, I was breathing it. Thank you, Shiv!
Visualization
Visualization is a key theme of my Landscape Photography Workshops and last weekend was no exception. Having been to Fort Hill many times I have not been fortunate to get the sky I was looking for (visualization). On Sunday it all came together. It is worth getting to a location well before sunrise, it is worth pre-visualizing the image, it is worth setting the camera on the tripod, making the image and getting a sense of satisfaction that is so total.As an added bonus, when the participants feel like they got some value from my workshops, it makes it so worthwhile. Thank you to all of you who come to these and other one day sessions - I truly appreciate your support and participation.A few more comments:This is not a 'let's go someplace pretty, take some pictures and have a nice lunch' weekend. It's a fun but intensive workshop for anyone serious about improving their photography. We worked hard from sunup to sundown, literally, but everyone came away with new skills, better aesthetic appreciation, and images they should be proud of. As always, I go for Shiv's teaching. His lessons are appropriate to my skill level, neither beginner nor pro. You'll learn more per hour from Shiv than from anyone else, and it's all good stuff.

The Grist Mill in Brewster lends itself to exposure stacks even when the dynamic range does not exceed 5 stops.
Cloudy Days
Another cloudy and damp day. At least it is not raining. This took me back to last week on the Cape and an image that appealed to me. Truly hoping for great light in two weeks for the next workshop.
Cape Cod on Sunday
On the last day we were fortunate to get some sun. There was no opportunity for sunrise images as the fog had not lifted. After a brief classroom session we went to the Audubon Sanctuary in Wellfleet. This tree caught my eye. A few layer modifications and NiK Color Efex 4 to give it a border.
Cape Cod - any day any time
Took our house guests to the Cape. The weather was great, so lunch in Harwich Port and then Chatham. Last stop Brewester.This is at the Chatham Fish Pier mid afternoon light - NIK Color Efex 4 applied for effect.
This was at low tide in Brewester - once again a bit of drama with NIK filters.
Looking Back at 2011
2011 was an interesting year in a lot of respects. Most important and foremost I would like to thank all of you who participated in my photo tours, educational workshops and one-on-one lessons. I would also like to thank all my photography clients both individuals and corporations and my sponsors, you have all been fantastic and I look forward to your continued support in the coming years.I truly enjoyed meeting and making new friends and the process of learning from each other. The incredible experiences in Florida, Alaska, Colorado, Cape Cod, Maine, and New Hampshire and all the one day trips in and around Massachusetts will never be forgotten.After many months of planning the 2012 schedule is about ready to be published. Most significant are the photo tours and workshops to India in February, Florida for another great bird photograpy workshop in March, Smokeys in the Spring - this starts the year. Keep an eye out for details and more information as we post it in the workshop pages on this blog.Also planned are a number of one and two day sessions for macro, lighting, composition, Lightroom and Photoshop training. As always, customized one-on-one programs are also available.None of this would have been possible without the incredible amount of planning and organizing by my photograpy partner and loving wife - thank you M.
Mother and Child - Cape Cod Workshop
Going through some of the images from the final day of the workshop I came across this one from Coast Guard beach. Shot during the midday hours in contrasty light the monochromatic treatment appealed to me. I took it one step further and applied the antique plate effect from NIK Silver Efex Pro.
The Light of Cape Cod
An excellent three day workshop in the Cape. An intimate group of seven photographers had a great time shooting the incredible light of Cape Cod. We wound down each day with wine and cheese, image viewing, lessons and laughter. The mornings were rainy but evolved into beautiful defuse light for the rest of the day. Evenings presented us with phenomenal color and spectacular sunsets. Will post participants' images next week.Here are some that I captured:
Macro & Close-Up Photography Workshop - Cape Cod Art Association - July 24, 2011
The workshop at the Cape Cod Art Association was a great day despite the occasional rain that did prevent the attendees from photographing in the rain. Rain drop covered flowers and grasses made for some beautiful images.
