Fog X FLO -2
This was photographed at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University located in the Jamaica Plain and Roslindale sections of Boston. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and is the second largest "link" in the Emerald Necklace. This was another test of the Lumix G9 and Leica 12-60 lens combination's weather resistance. Both camera and lens were soaked as a result of the spray from the high pressure water misters but performed flawlessly.This art exhibition runs through the end of October and is worth visiting.
Fog X FLO an interpretation
This image was captured midday on Sept 3, 2018, when the temperature was 95 degrees. This location is Back Bay Fens in Boston."Emerald Necklace Conservancy presents the first citywide exhibition of Fujiko Nakaya’s “climate-responsive” fog art, sited in dialogue with the landmarked landscapes designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (FLO)." This exhibition is to mark the 20th anniversary of the Conservancy.

Fog - In the Dark
In continuation of yesterday's post, the second image I had pre-visualized was a barn nestled among some dark trees with a figure in some vintage clothing standing in the foreground. I wanted to light the figure for some added effect. Driving in a nearby town I notice this barn or shack, so my wife and I decided to check it out. It was close to what I was wanting to capture. My wife put on this vintage coat and trudged through the slush to the shack. I in the mean while took a few test shots to check out the light and composition. I had not worn proper boots and was wearing a pair of slip ons. In the rush to get out and shoot, as luck would have it, as I carried the light stand and soft box to the shack I realized I was ankle-deep in slush and freezing water. Next my pocket wizards decided they would limit their range so I had to get closer than I wanted as all I had taken with me was the 35 - 100 mm on my GH4. To get the full shot I would have to take two images and stitch them. The final image is composed of two images stitched in Photoshop and then textured.Please click on the image for a larger rendition.

Fog - January 4, 2015
Today was the first day in 2015 that I picked up a camera and stepped out to see if I could get two images that I have been envisioning. The first was a tall lone tree in fog or mist the other I leave for tomorrow. I wanted it to be a monochrome image, B&W or cyanotype - I settled on B&W. The snow against the dirt and rocks adds to the scene creating a strong foundation for the rest that is mainly an ethereal sky.
Vermont - Fall 2013
Fall colors have come a week or more early in most of New England. Most tourist areas will be past peak foliage color by Columbus Day.Took a trip up north to Vermont this pst weekend - the Ludlow and Woodstock areas. Grey skies, rain and fog were in the forecast and for a change the weather man was on the money.
One must make the best of every opportunity and the Okemo mountain region offered the best fog images.
When it all comes together
I have visions of scenes and locations that I want but have to wait till it all comes together. On the very last day of the Smoky Mountain Workshop we had planned to go to the Foothills Parkway for sunrise. When I woke up I saw signs of some fog which would make for some very nice images along the parkway but feelings were tugging at me and I wanted to go to Cades Cove in the hope of getting my one image of Sparks Lane. The group agreed to the change in planes and we headed out to Cades Cove. Half way there all the fog was gone, it was too late to turn around so I decided to to continue and take my chances. Arriving at the gates before they opened, I saw that the fog was there - a big thumbs-up.The rest of the story is in the image. The light in the trees, the dogwood in the foreground, the fog along the tree line and the sunrise colors on the mountains - my dreams had come true it was all there as I had hoped to capture one day.
